Should also keep in mind what the tractor was doing while the engine was running.

I have a Ford 641 (not a compact). The engine was rebuild about 15 years ago. Story I heard was that the Ford mechanic took one look at the main bearings and said that the tractor never had a plow on it. He was right. The tractor has only been used to cut grass.

I have a 6' flail made by Matthews (maybe Crystal Lake, IL). The model is called a Lawn Genie, has vacuum paddles and a basket. Although it weighs 1400 lbs. it's pretty much made for grooming a lawn. Last I saw, they cost like 4800 new. You may find one used. My unit takes maybe 25 hp minimum PTO.

The commercial flails are heavier (the spring steel blades etc. are heavier). I have even seen some flail blades which are just cast iron hammers with a ground edge.

If you are shopping around, be specific what you need.

Storr is a very big Toro Groundmaster dealer, but they probably see alot of used stuff. Perhaps you could contact them with your stationery and explain your situation.

Yup, that's a lot of grass for a small machine unless you have nothing else to do but cut grass. Either look in the 50+ hp range with 7' to 12' mowers (finish or brush hog) or just get some livestock.

What's a wind tunnel mower?

General consensus seems to be that rear discharge spreads the clippings more evenly. Side discharge is handy for blowing leaves.

I have a 96" Lastec 521 groomer (www.lastec.com)- 5 spindles. The mfg specifies 3 HP min / 6 HP max PTO per spindle (actually per deck). Probably best to check with Woods.

BTW, I'd have a Woods but my turf is very uneven.
